Since 1970, Krems has been the new residence of Conny and Wolfgang Wandraschek. They worked as architects but soon discovered their passion for wine. Their favourite variety, Cabernet Sauvignon, is grown in the family's personal vineyard. "A barrel for me and my friends," says Wolfgang Wandraschek. The contents of that barrel eventually became the first 'Falstaff Varietal Winner', followed by three more firsts (1999, 2005 and 2014).
Thus began a passion that has now captured their son Gregor. He has already taken over the family business with just under two hectares - and the trend is upwards. Many people are already talking about the "little piece of Bordeaux in the Kremstal" because the Weinmanufaktur Wandraschek is a boutique winery with exceptional standards. The red wines are aged for two years in French oak barrels, making them harmonious, stable and distinctive. Gregor and his father, Wolfgang, see themselves as creative craftsmen, using mainly manual labour to produce red wines that are as close to perfection as possible. Recently, in addition to their high quality reds, rosés and sparkling wines, they have begun to produce equally high quality Grüner Veltliner and Riesling from top sites such as Steiner Kögl.
Together with Gregor, Conny Wandraschek is responsible for marketing and sales, and also enjoys organising exclusive wine events and private tastings at the winery.
